Access FTP and SFTP From Any Browser

A free FTP and SFTP client that runs in any modern browser — nothing to download, no software to install. Use your own credentials; they are never stored or logged.

The connect form above handles both FTP and SFTP. Prefer to start on a dedicated tool page? Use the web FTP client or the web SFTP client directly.

Credentials not stored

Free tier keeps them in memory for your session only — never written to disk or logged.

Encrypted connections

Served over HTTPS, and SFTP encrypts your connection over SSH. Plain FTP is flagged before you connect.

No installation

Runs in your browser — no download, no installer, nothing to keep updated.

Works on any modern device

Desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone — if it has a browser, it works.

Connect to a server

Credentials never stored

Your credentials are used only for the active connection and are never stored, logged or shared. Plain FTP sends credentials unencrypted — prefer SFTP whenever the server supports it.

How it works

  1. Connect

Enter your server's host, port and credentials. They live only in your browser session and are never stored or logged.

  2. Browse

Explore the remote file tree — folders, sizes, types and timestamps. Click into folders and back out.

  3. Transfer

Upload files from your computer or download them to it, straight from the browser.

FTP vs SFTP — which should you use?

FilePort Pro supports both protocols and warns you before any plain-FTP connection so you can make an informed choice.

The app flags plain FTP in the connect form and asks you to confirm before connecting. Whenever your server supports SFTP, it's the safer choice.

Everything you'd expect from an FTP client — in your browser

The core tool is identical on both the free and paid tiers — Pro never gates the basics.

  • Browse with breadcrumbs. A clean file listing with folders, sizes, types, and modification times, plus sortable columns.
  • Upload and download. Upload multiple files at once, drag & drop onto the list, or download an entire folder as a ZIP archive.
  • Per-file, byte-counted progress. Every transfer shows exactly how much has moved and how much is left — no guessing.
  • Built-in SFTP host-key verification. The app recalls the server's host key and shows its fingerprint; if it ever changes, it refuses to connect until you confirm.
  • Works on mobile. The layout adapts to phones and tablets, so you can move files from anywhere.

Who uses a browser-based FTP client?

Put a website online

Upload your built site to shared web hosting in a couple of clicks — no desktop program involved.

Deploy and update a server

Push configs and files to your own VPS or SFTP-enabled server from any machine.

Admin from a managed computer

On a school, library, or work machine where installing software is blocked, the browser is the client.

Move files on the go

Connect from a Chromebook, tablet, or phone — no separate downloads per operating system.

How FilePort Pro handles your credentials

You're asked to enter details that may control an entire server, so this is explained plainly.

  • Session-only by default (free tier). Credentials are held in memory for the active connection only. They're never written to disk, stored in a database, or logged, and they clear when you disconnect or after roughly 15 minutes of inactivity.
  • One honest caveat. To relay the connection, your credentials pass through our server to reach yours — as with any hosted client. They're never stored or logged on our side.
  • Encryption in transit. The site is served over HTTPS, and SFTP encrypts your whole connection over SSH. Plain FTP is unencrypted by protocol design, so the app warns you before connecting and recommends SFTP.
  • SFTP host-key verification. On SFTP, the app remembers the server's host key and shows its fingerprint so you can check it. If the key ever changes, it refuses to connect until you confirm.
  • Zero-knowledge vault (Pro, optional). Saved connections are encrypted in your browser with a key only you hold — before they ever reach us. Nothing is stored unless you opt in.

Our privacy policy documents exactly what is and isn't kept. Free tier: no account, nothing stored.

Free vs Pro

The free tier stays free forever. Pro is an optional paid tier for heavier, more convenient use.

Protocol features (FTP + SFTP, host-key verification, per-file progress, drag & drop, mobile) are identical on both tiers — Pro never gates the core tool.

Frequently asked questions

What is a web FTP client?

A web FTP client is a file-transfer tool that runs entirely in your browser instead of as a desktop program. Enter your server's address and credentials on the page to browse folders, upload files, and download files over FTP or SFTP — no software to download and nothing to install.

Is it safe to enter FTP credentials in a browser?

FilePort Pro connects over HTTPS, and your credentials are used only to establish the connection you asked for: they're held in memory for your session and never written to disk, stored in a database, or logged. One honest caveat: to relay the connection, your credentials pass through our server to reach yours — as with any hosted client. Plain FTP sends your password unencrypted by protocol design, so the app warns you before connecting and recommends SFTP.

What is the difference between FTP and SFTP?

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the classic file-transfer protocol: fast and simple, but by design it sends your username, password, and files without encryption. SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) runs over an SSH connection — normally port 22 — and encrypts everything in transit. FilePort Pro supports both; when your server offers SFTP, it's the safer choice. Use the web FTP client or the web SFTP client to connect.

Can I upload or download large files?

Yes. There's no fixed file-size limit on FilePort Pro's side, and every transfer shows per-file, byte-counted progress, so large files display steady, verifiable progress instead of a silent wait. Practical limits come from your connection and your server's configuration.

Do you store my passwords?

No, unless you choose to save them. On the free tier, credentials stay only in memory for the duration of your session and are never written to disk, stored in a database, logged, or shared with third parties, including advertisers — close the tab and the session is gone. You can optionally save connections in the Pro vault, where they're encrypted with a key only you hold; nothing is stored unless you opt in. The only thing your browser stores by default is a non-secret host-key fingerprint used to detect a changed SFTP server.

Does FilePort Pro work on mobile?

Yes. The layout adapts to phones and tablets, so you can connect, browse, upload, and download from a mobile browser just as on a desktop.

Is FilePort Pro really free? How is it funded?

Yes — the FTP and SFTP client is free to use, supported by advertising in dedicated slots; we don't use intrusive pop-under or push-ad networks. FilePort Pro, an optional paid tier, adds an ad-free experience, a zero-knowledge saved-connections vault, larger and resumable transfers, and more concurrent sessions. It's available as a $39 one-time lifetime purchase or $5 per month. The free tier stays free, and the free tier's privacy promise — credentials never stored unless you choose to save them in the vault — will not change.

How do I connect to my server?

Choose FTP or SFTP, enter your server's host, port, username, and password (plus an optional start folder), and click Connect. FilePort Pro opens the connection and shows the remote folders, which you can browse with breadcrumbs; upload by clicking Upload or dragging files in, and download with a click. SFTP defaults to port 22; the app verifies the server's host key and warns you if it ever changes.

Connect to your server — right now, from your browser

No download, no install. Enter your credentials and start moving files in seconds.

Pro — ad-free, saved connections, larger transfers and resume — is coming soon.

Delete selected items?

This will permanently delete the selected items from the server. This cannot be undone.
