Free FTP & SFTP Tools

A small set of genuinely useful, free tools for everyday FTP and SFTP work — check whether a port is open, build a ready-to-run sftp command, estimate transfer times, parse connection strings, and verify file checksums. Most run entirely in your browser; the port checker and connection test run a server-side probe. Either way, only the details each tool actually needs are sent, and nothing is stored.

Why free browser tools?

FTP and SFTP work is full of small, annoying calculations — how long will this backup take, what does this connection string even mean, did this download arrive intact. Individually none of them is worth installing a program for. These tools handle each one in a few seconds, with no download and no sign-up. They're deliberately honest: estimates are labelled as estimates, sensitive fields (like a password inside a URL) are masked until you choose to reveal them, and every tool states plainly that it runs in your browser without sending your input anywhere.

Connection failing? Read the FTP connection errors guide — what "refused," "timed out," and 530 mean, and how to fix each one. For SFTP, the SFTP connection errors guide covers host-key verification, publickey, refused, and timeout fixes. Rather not use a desktop client like FileZilla at all? See our FileZilla alternatives — desktop and no-install options.

You can do the transfers here too

These helpers are companions to the main app: FilePort Pro is a free, ad-supported FTP and SFTP client that runs right in your browser — connect, browse, upload and download without installing anything. Use these tools to plan and prepare, then connect for the actual transfer. Your credentials are never stored, and every connection uses your browser's own session.
