Connect to Hostinger with SFTP or FTP from Your Browser

Hostinger uses hPanel, its own hosting control panel, and it supports both FTP and SFTP for getting files onto your site. FilePort Pro runs in the browser, so once you have your Hostinger FTP details you can upload files straight from a web page — no software to install and no desktop client to configure.

Hostinger uses hPanel, not cPanel

If you're used to cPanel-style hosting, the first thing to know about Hostinger is that most current plans use hPanel — Hostinger's own control panel — rather than cPanel. The layout and wording are different, so don't go looking for the familiar cPanel sections. The important part for file transfer is that hPanel includes an FTP accounts area where you create and manage your FTP and SFTP logins. A few legacy or premium Hostinger plans still run cPanel, in which case you'd find FTP under Files → FTP Accounts as usual. Confirm which panel your own account shows before you start, and use what that panel displays.

FTP or SFTP — which to use on Hostinger

hPanel supports both FTP and SFTP, and SFTP is the method to prefer. SFTP runs inside an encrypted SSH connection (normally on port 22), so your username, password, and files are protected in transit. Plain FTP (on port 21) sends your password and data in cleartext by protocol design, so it's convenient but less safe — use it only when SFTP isn't available on your plan. Because FilePort Pro relays your connection, your credentials pass through our server to reach yours, as with any hosted client. The connection between your browser and FilePort Pro is served over HTTPS, and your Hostinger credentials are held in memory only for the active session — they are never stored or logged.

Find your Hostinger FTP credentials in hPanel

Everything you need to connect lives in the FTP accounts area of hPanel. The exact label and location can vary by plan, so confirm what yours shows, but the typical path is:

  1. Log in to your Hostinger account and open hPanel for the hosting plan you want to reach.
  2. Open the FTP accounts area — on most plans this is under Files → FTP Accounts (or the SFTP equivalent), but the wording can vary by plan, so look for where FTP or SFTP access is managed if you don't see it there.
  3. Find your hostname and username. hPanel shows your FTP hostname — usually your domain name or the server host displayed on the page — and your FTP/SFTP username. Use exactly what it shows.
  4. Set or reset the password if you don't have it. hPanel lets you change the FTP password from the same screen.

If your Hostinger plan runs cPanel instead, the equivalent screen is Files → FTP Accounts in cPanel, which shows the same hostname, username, and password options.

Connect to Hostinger with FilePort Pro

With your host, username, and password in hand, connecting is quick:

  1. Open FilePort Pro — it lives in the browser, so there's nothing to install.
  2. Choose SFTP (port 22) for an encrypted connection, or FTP (port 21) if SFTP isn't available on your plan.
  3. Enter the host, username, and password exactly as hPanel shows them.
  4. Click Connect — you land in the file list and can browse folders with breadcrumbs, upload files by clicking or dragging them in, and download what you need, including whole folders as a ZIP archive.

One honest note: if you connect over plain FTP, your password travels unencrypted by protocol design. FilePort Pro warns you before making a plain-FTP connection and recommends SFTP whenever your server supports it. If plain FTP is all your plan offers, the online FTP client handles that in the same browser window.

Upload files to your Hostinger website

Your website's public files belong in your site's document root. On a typical Hostinger account that's the folder the panel shows when you open File Manager or the FTP accounts area — the directory visitors hit when they load your domain. Uploading your HTML, assets, and uploads straight into that folder with an FTP or SFTP client is usually faster and more reliable than walking a small panel-based upload window, especially for an archive, a theme, or a folder of assets. If you're not certain which folder is your site's root on your particular account, confirm it against the folder shown in hPanel rather than guessing.

A note on Hostinger SFTP security

Because FilePort Pro relays your connection, your Hostinger credentials pass through our server to reach yours — never "credentials never leave your browser." They're held in memory only for the active session, never stored, never logged, and the session ends when you disconnect or after about 15 minutes of inactivity. Since SFTP is available on hPanel, prefer it over plain FTP so your login and files stay encrypted end to end. See our security page for how FilePort Pro handles your credentials.

Frequently asked questions

Does Hostinger use cPanel?

On current plans Hostinger uses hPanel, its own hosting control panel, rather than cPanel. A few legacy or premium plans still run cPanel, so confirm which panel your account shows. Either way the same credentials screens apply — you're looking for the FTP accounts area under Files.

How do I find my Hostinger FTP credentials?

Log in to hPanel and open the FTP accounts area — on most plans it's under Files → FTP Accounts, though the exact label can vary by plan, so confirm what yours shows. There you'll see your FTP and SFTP hostname (usually your domain or the server host shown) and your username, and you can set or reset the password. Use exactly what hPanel displays when you connect.

Is SFTP enabled on Hostinger by default?

Hostinger's hPanel supports both FTP and SFTP, and SFTP is the recommended method because it encrypts your login and files. It's available through the same FTP accounts area; you just connect on port 22 instead of port 21. If you don't have it on your plan, plain FTP on port 21 still works.

What port does Hostinger SFTP use?

Hostinger SFTP runs on the standard SSH port 22, the usual default for SFTP. Your hPanel may show the port to use. If port 22 doesn't connect, check the hostname and account details shown in the FTP accounts area before trying other values.

Can I upload to Hostinger without the File Manager?

Yes. Hostinger's hPanel has its own File Manager, but you don't have to use it. Create or use your FTP account, then connect with any FTP or SFTP client — including a browser-based one like FilePort Pro — to browse folders and upload files directly into your website's root, with drag-and-drop convenience and visible progress.
