FTP from a Managed Work Computer — No Install, No Admin
On a work laptop you can't install software on, a browser is your FTP client. FilePort Pro runs entirely in the browser — no download, no installer, no admin rights — so you can still reach an FTP or SFTP server when you need to. Your credentials are held only in memory and never stored or logged.
Made for locked-down work machines
Managed and shared computers often block software installation, and desktop FTP tools are exactly the kind of install IT doesn't want running everywhere. A browser-based client sidesteps that entirely: if you can open a web page, you can run FilePort Pro. There's no install footprint to leave behind and nothing to remove when you're done — on a borrowed or company machine, that matters.
It also works identically across Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS, so it's a consistent file-transfer tool no matter which managed machine you happen to be on.
Connect without installing anything
- Open fileportpro.com in your browser — no install, no admin rights, no browser extension.
- Enter your server details — FTP or SFTP, host, port, username, and password, plus an optional starting folder.
- Click Connect — browse with breadcrumbs, upload multiple files at once or by drag-and-drop, and download files or whole folders as a ZIP archive.
When you're ready, try an FTP connection right from your browser — no install and no admin rights required.
An honest note about your network and your policy
FilePort Pro can only reach a server that your network lets it reach. If your corporate firewall or outbound policy blocks FTP (port 21) or SSH (port 22), the connection won't succeed — no browser-based tool can override a firewall, and we wouldn't claim otherwise. When plain FTP is blocked but SFTP is allowed, SFTP on port 22 can often get through. And as with any tool on a work machine, follow your employer's policy for what you're permitted to connect to.
When you connect, FilePort Pro serves the app over HTTPS and keeps your credentials only in memory for the session — never written to disk, never stored in a database, never logged. Your credentials do pass through our server to reach yours, as with any hosted client. Plain FTP sends your password unencrypted by design, so the app warns you and recommends SFTP for encrypted transfers.
Frequently asked questions
Can I access an FTP server on a computer where I can't install software?
Yes. FilePort Pro is browser-based, so on a managed or locked-down work machine you only need a browser — no software to download or install, no admin rights required. Open the page, connect, and transfer files.
Is it safe to use a browser FTP client on a work computer?
FilePort Pro runs over HTTPS and keeps your credentials only in memory for the session — never written to disk, never stored in a database, never logged. Your credentials do pass through our server to reach yours, as with any hosted client. Follow your employer's IT policy for what you're allowed to connect to.
What if my corporate network blocks port 21 or 22?
FilePort Pro can only reach servers your network lets it reach — a firewall that blocks outbound FTP or SSH will block the connection, and no browser client can bypass that. If your network blocks plain FTP (port 21), SFTP on port 22 may still work. This is a network policy decision, not something the app can override.
Does using this leave any software behind on the work machine?
No. There's nothing to install, so there's no install footprint to remove. Close the tab when you're done and nothing remains on the machine — only a non-secret host-key fingerprint is stored in your browser to detect changed SFTP servers.
